The excavated site lies in Khirbet a Rai in the Philistine city of Ziklag. In the Bible, Dsvid seeks refuge in Ziklag after fleeing from the Kingdom of Israel and the rule of King Saul. Later, after Saul's death, David becomes king in Hebron and is granted rule over Ziklag.
